Whether you’re into road racing, mountain biking, electric bikes or just pootling, you’ll be pedalling through paradise when you cycle Croatia.
No cyclist will be left unmoved after inhaling the Croatian coastline, cycle-friendly islands, lush countryside and centuries-old vineyards. Here are some of Croatia’s best cycling destinations in a country filled with a passion for pleasure.
Istria & The Parenzana Trail:
Poreč, on the west coast of Istria, is a standout for cyclists of all ages and abilities. Its lower elevations and soft contours offer plenty of scenery you can enjoy at a leisurely pace.
Pedal the Parenzana Trail, a famous 123km (77 mile) cycling and hiking route that runs through Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. Once an old narrow-gauge railway connecting Poreč to Trieste, it has been transformed into a multi-use path for outdoor activities. Along the way, you’ll experience a cornucopia of cultures, landscapes and historic towns, each with distinct heritage and local cuisines.
The Dalmatian Coast and Island Hopping:
A cyclist’s dream, the EuroVelo 8 — also known as the Mediterranean Route — runs along the Croatian coast and takes in some of the country’s most celebrated seaside landscapes. There are dedicated cycle paths marked out in many places – some of which run along old shepherd paths. The app Zadar Bike Magic gives you plenty of options in the area around Zadar, with a total of 86 routes covering 3,000km.
While you are there, take advantage of the many cycling-friendly opportunities to island hop to places like:
Hvar Island:
Cycle through lavender on the island of Hvar during its summertime array of lilac and green. Hvar is the sunniest spot in the Adriatic Sea with the greatest number of sunny hours during the year. It’s also home to some of the best festival entertainment you’ll find in Croatia for those who like to mix their cycling with a little party time.
Brač Island:
Brač is a standout for dedicated cyclists. The island has over 700 km of marked cycling routes threading through olive groves, Mediterranean hills and coastal plains. One of the highlights is the climb up to Vidova Gora, the highest peak among the Adriatic islands, for panoramic views that reward the effort.
Just outside the coastal village of Sutivan, you’ll find scenic circuits that trace olive groves and vineyard slopes, perfect for both intermediate and seasoned riders.
Korčula Island:
The reputed birthplace of Marco Polo, Korčula combines gentle hills, quiet roads and lush vineyards. Rent a bike and pedal through vineyards, along quiet coastal roads and between charming villages — a great choice for riders who love scenery and wine tastings.

Pelješac Peninsula:
For the truly adventurous cyclers, bike along the scenic Pelješac coastline. Renowned for its world-class vineyards and dramatic coastal scenery, you can cycle from Ston, home to Europe’s longest medieval walls, toward Orebic, where you’ll weave through mountain foothills, sea-kissed valleys and vineyard roads.
With water on both sides of the strip of land, seasoned cyclists will embrace the panoramic views and appreciate the picturesque stopping points along the way.
The National Parks:
Plitvice Lakes National Park
This UNESCO World Heritage Site features trails that loop around the lakes and forest paths taking you deeper into pristine wilderness. Some routes skirt through peaceful countryside and alongside rivers — perfect for riders who love nature and want a break from coastal heat.
Mljet National Park
For something more tranquil, Mljet’s iconic cycling circuit skirts the edge of the Great Lake in the national park. The mostly flat route is shaded by pine trees and is ideal for families or casual cyclists. At its heart sits a small island with a 12th-century monastery, a unique stop on a memorable ride.
